Dead Man Kneels beside Osiris

Chapter Ninety Two

* * * * * *

Janet smiled as Jack shifted on the bed.
Sam was rather wet, but she'd thoroughly enjoyed her ride.
Later, when things weren't so rushed, they'd work on a longer ride or see what else they could do.
They'd just needed a brief break from the strain of the morning.
*Janet, when were those supplies supposed to be here?*
*0610ish. I know, they're an hour late.*
*I'm trying not to think about what might be being done out there.*
*I know. Denial. We're running away.*
Sam sighed, not really sure what else to do with all the emotional damage the situation had caused their group.
*It's called "Strategic Retreat", Janet. How's the wrist?*
*I'm trying not to move it much although nailing Jack like that didn't help it much.*
*I know, sorry. Instinct.*
*Well, the brace I want will be in the supplies when they eventually show up, so I forgive you.*
Sam smiled, shaking water off her jacket before looking up.
*Dry me, please.*
Janet chuckled, catching Jack's attention.
*Cheater.*
Sam smirked.
*Knowing you, it's probably industrial grade water or something. It'll never dry.*
*Now that's a thought.*
Sam just shook her head as a gusty wind swooshed her dry.
She laughed as the wind died down and she found herself in front of a giant Rubix cube.
*Keep busy.*
*I don't think so.*
Sam started to walk toward the cube, curious in spite of herself when the room tilted and then disappeared.
Sam called out as she floated in sudden nothingness, but Janet wasn't listening or in full control of her thoughts.
Janet's fingernails scraped his shoulders as he captured her mouth and his hands aroused her like never before.
She felt like she was drowning in tactile bliss.
Jack moved across her, gripping her shoulders to pull her closer, deepening their contact.
"O'Neill!"
Amber's mental groaning combined with Teal'c's voice and banging on the door forced Jack back to reality.
**Jonathan! Teal'c's yelling!**
Jack groaned, trying to ignore them all, not wanting to stop touching Janet for even a second.
He kissed her neck, enjoying her softness as she arched against him.
**Jonathan! Teal'c doesn't yell!**
Amber's agitation finally knocked him out of the passionate journey he'd begun.
Frustration clawed at him as he glared at the wall behind Janet.
Janet's breathing was still off kilter and he kissed her again, putting all his pent up frustration into it.
He groaned against her lips as she moved beneath him, completely unhelpful in his need for self-control.
The sound of wood shattering scared Janet and she gasped as she slipped off the bed.
Jack caught her, pulling her back, laughing under his breath at her dazed shock.
"Calm down, baby. Shh..."
Janet took deep calming breaths, trying to get her chaotic thoughts under control.
Sam tried to be understanding, but was incredibly upset with her unexpected bout in space.
As soon as Janet's mind caught hold, she created a beautiful sitting room for Sam.
*I'm so sorry.*
Sam couldn't hold back a grin after thinking about what had just happened.
*Must've been some kiss.*
Janet didn't even bother answering, staring over Jack's shoulder at what was left of his bedroom door.
Teal'c stood there, more impassive than she'd ever seen before.
Jack had already turned, his wide eyes taking in the destruction Teal'c had wrought on his unsuspecting door.
"Why?"
"You did not answer when I called. I thought perhaps that something had happened. I will repair the door."
Jack smirked at Teal'c, trying not to chuckle.
"Thanks, Teal'c. I'm glad you're on the ball."
"You are welcome, O'Neill. However, I do not believe this is a proper use of our time if we are to leave here today."
"Is something else wrong?"
"AirmanTrivies is in the bathroom at the moment, CassandraFraiser is in the living room watching television, and GeneralHammond is in your kitchen, but I have found no trace of DanielJackson or AmberCorvores."
Jack mentally groaned.
**You didn't tell Teal'c where you were going?**
**Umm...no. I have no more desire to look at that airman than you do. Besides, how was I supposed to know two grown adults would behave like teenagers the moment the responsible adults left?**
Jack sent as much annoyance through the link as he could, knowing their timing could've been better, but not regretting a moment of it.
**Where are you?**
**Daniel lives closest so we're checking his fish now. Then, we're off to my place.**
**Okay, Judy should be here in five...**
**Umm, I think your time sense is off.**
**No it isn't.**
Amber's mental snort made him look at the clock.
"Ugh. Okay, Teal'c, I'd rather Trivies stay locked up until we actually leave."
"I concur. He is now finished."
Teal'c motioned the Airman into the spare bedroom, waiting for the door to close before turning back to O'Neill.
"Okay, Amber's sister's companion'll be here momentarily. Daniel and Amber have gone to check his fish and get her clothes so we get to be the welcome party."
Jack broke off as Janet jumped up off the bed, straightening her clothing and pulling on Amber's shoes.
"You okay?"
He noticed the flush on her cheeks had deepened to a full blush and smiled, enjoying the fact he'd put that blush there.
"I'm fine. I want to get something out of my suitcase."
"Can't. Amber took it to put her clothes in it."
"Oh."
Janet sat down, obviously trying to think of a reason for leaving the room.
Jack sighed and took pity on her.
"Someone really needs to meet Judy...the companion...and the taxi when it gets here..."
Janet jumped back up.
"I'll do that."
*Janet, calm down.*
*My thoughts are stuck in the gutter, Sam. I can't look at him without wanting to..*
Sam chuckled.
*You'll just make it worse by avoiding him.*
*I need distance...now.*
Janet slipped by Teal'c and through the house to the living room.

* * * * * *

George put down the phone, glad to have done something.
He understood why Jack didn't trust him, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
His premiere, favorite team didn't trust him.
He remembered when Jack had thought he'd had something to do with the Touchstone's disappearance.
That had hurt, too, but now they were actually leaving the state, unwilling to accept his help even in small ways.
He sighed, hoping something would go right while they were gone and he could fix everything before they got back.
A complete personnel overhaul was probably in order.
All the latest additions would need to be screened for possible ties with whatever was going on.
George sighed.
At least Airman Trivies wouldn't be missed.
He'd ordered the Airman to accompany the team and Lt. Simmons had entered the order verbatim.
George looked up as Dr. Fraiser entered the room.
Cassandra was quietly sitting, watching early morning cartoons.
"Don't eat anything else. Jack wants us to eat on the way. Make sure you use the bathroom again. You know he hates pulling over every half hour."
Cassie grinned, knowing it was Janet who was guilty of that, not her.
A couple times SG-1 had taken her skiing, Janet had come, too, and, well...Jack wasn't thrilled at the constant stops.
Cassie just nodded, allowing her mom her delusions.
Cassie never had to go.
She had complete control over her biological functions.
Janet had explained she needed to act like human girls, but Jack had told her that being able to hold it until the next scheduled stop was a trait all drivers appreciated so she didn't pretend.
Cassandra passed the rest of her celery sticks and cheese cubes to General Hammond and hoped she'd get a say in where they ate breakfast.

* * * * * *

Teal'c turned back to O'Neill.
Amusement, understanding, and annoyance all warred for supremacy inside him.
He knew that the love O'Neill had for JanetFraiser was strong, but that it needed to be nurtured carefully so no steps were skipped over, helping it to stand the test of time.
Teal'c looked at the wooden shards the door had splintered into.
He did not regret doing that.
There had been a chance someone had harmed them.
Their timing was unwise, however, and Teal'c knew he would have to go back and guard the prisoner again.
He only hoped O'Neill would think before acting again.
Emotions were running high inside everyone and O'Neill did not need the added chaos of sexual frustration.
Teal'c decided then and there to keep tabs on O'Neill, knowing the doctor was a chink in his control.
"Teal'c, stop staring at me. I'm okay."
"You are not okay."
Jack sighed.
The sound of a vehicle arriving caught both men's attention.
Jack took advantage of the distraction and vaulted past Teal'c to go see.
Teal'c waited until O'Neill was out of sight before permitting himself a small smile at the younger man's actions.
He turned to resume guarding the Goa'uld he'd captured.

* * * * * *

Janet called out to Vera, thoroughly happy to see her.
Dr. Vera Norin was probably the calmest, most down to Earth friend that Janet had ever made.
Vera stepped out of her car, motioning to the trunk.
"I have the first aid kit, the medication, and the broken limb box you asked for."
Janet grinned at Sam's question.
*The Broken Limb box has all the portable braces, splints, tough gauze, and medical tape we should need.*
*Ah..okay.*
Janet stepped to the back of the car, holding out her wrist as Vera checked it over and strapped on the brace.
"Put ice on that to keep swelling down. Elevate it a bit, too."
Vera grinned at the exasperated look on Janet's face.
As soon as the brace was in place, Janet picked up the plastic kit full of the specific medication she'd asked for and turned to take it to where Jack had stacked their suitcases.
"It's combination locked so Cassie can't get into it. Where is she, by the way?"
"She's watching TV. Thanks so much for doing this. I know it's early."
"Late, actually. I just got off night watch. We had an emergency. That's why I'm so late."
Janet waved off the apology, just glad Vera had shown.
"I heard you got a raise."
Vera grinned.
"No, by taking the night watch, including graveyard shift, I upped my pay a bit. I can't be on twenty-four hour call right now so it's the best I can do."
Vera set the broken limb box and the first aid kit by the med kit before turning back to her car.
"I'd love to stay and say hi to whoever it is that lives here, but I need to get going. Call me if you need something, anything, okay?"
"I will."
Janet hugged her long-time friend, knowing Vera had to get home before her kids left for day camp.
It was the only time she really got to see them since she was usually asleep when they got home.
"Thank you."
"Anytime."
Vera slid into the driver's seat and started the car.
Waving, she pulled out and was gone.

* * * * * *

Daniel stepped up to the door, waiting for his neighbor to answer.
No one else was home and he was not happy that they were the only ones who might be able to help him.
The door opened at the second knock, a girl with long auburn hair standing there.
She was fourteen and had become his bane.
"Hi Jessie, are your parents here?"
"No, they left for work already. I am, though."
*She is staring at you.*
*No kidding and I'm not giving her a key to my apartment so I'm not sure what to do.*
*Tell her to give the key to her parents.*
*She'll use the key, Jolinar. She's...got a crush on me.*
Jolinar's amusement only increased Daniel's ire.
"Jessie, I need to know when your parents will be home."
"Mom'll be back in a couple hours. Dad won't be back until tonight. Why?"
She looked up at him from under her lashes, obviously trying to look sexy.
Daniel gulped past the lump in his throat.
*You are weak.*
*Am not...fine, maybe I am. I don't want to hurt her feelings.*
*We have no time for this.*
*You can't take over.*
*Then repeat after me.*
Incredulous at Jolinar's attitude, Daniel ignored her and focused on Jessie.
"Jessie, I need for your mother to feed my fish for me, but I'm not sure I should leave my key with you."
Jessie stopped gazing and glared instead.
"I'm not going to do anything with it."
The guilty tinge on her cheeks told him otherwise and he was glad he hadn't given in.
*Daniel, we must go. Already, the vehicle will have arrived. We are wasting time.*
"Jessie, I need your promise that you'll give the key to your parents and won't use it yourself."
"I'm not a thief or anything."
"I know you're the one who keeps stealing my newspaper and I can't really believe the mailman would give my mail to you four times in a row by accident."
Jessie glowered, embarrassed.
"Jessie, I'm not mad, but I need your word you won't abuse this."
Amber came up behind him, sick of waiting in his apartment.
"Daniel, we need to go. Janet's supplies arrived, the taxi's there, and Judy's due any moment."
Daniel sighed and then turned back to Jessie who was eyeing Amber.
Amber couldn't miss the proprietary look in the girl's eyes and mentally chuckled.
**What?**
**Daniel's neighbor has a crush on him.**
Jonathan's chuckles matched her own and he supplied her with information on the girl.
**That's why he's been bunking with me.**
**Makes sense. However, he's pussyfooting around her and we need to go.**
Amber stepped forward, sliding her hand down Daniel's arm in a deliberately intimate gesture.
"Daniel, give her the key and let's go."
Daniel's eyes shot to her the moment her arm touched him and he stared at her a moment before realizing what she was doing.
He grimaced at the thought and Jolinar's exasperation wore him down.
"Here, Jessie. Please, don't abuse it."
He handed her the spare key and locked his apartment door.
Amber leaned closer and whispered in his ear, making sure Jessie could only hear part of it.
"If she goes in, the cameras will see her and you can just show the tape to her parents. No prob."
Daniel grinned for a moment at Amber's words, explaining the actual security system Jack had set up to Jolinar so she wouldn't take Amber's words at face value.
They made it to Janet's car when Amber went very still, her eyes widening.
Daniel moved to her side, ready to catch her if this was a relapse.
Amber stared at nothing for a few minutes before the corners of her mouth turned up and she grinned at Daniel.
Her hazel eyes danced as she listened to Jonathan's mental tirade.
"Amber? What is it?!"
Amber's eyes briefly focused on Daniel.
"Judy showed up in Laci's Voyager."
Amber's grin didn't dispel Daniel's sudden unease.
"Let's just say Laci had a hormone crisis when she had it fixed up."
Daniel rolled his eyes at the possibilities racing through his mind.
"How bad?"
Amber began giggling as Jonathan's mind became more and more livid.
**You didn't tell me!**
**I didn't know! You can always tell when I'm holding back.**
Jonathan's mind yelled and hollered at Amber so he wouldn't yell at Judy.
Amber stumbled in her laughter, catching Daniel's sleeve for balance.
He put his arm around her waist and half-carried her to the passenger side and helped her get in.
He reached across her, fastening her buckle before shutting her door and walking around to the driver's side.
He completely agreed with Jolinar's opinion on Amber's insanity levels at that moment.
"You need to give me directions to your place."
Amber forced herself to stop laughing at Jonathan's situation and directed Daniel where to go between giggles.

* * * * * *

Janet stood still, her hand clapped over her mouth, waiting for Jack's reaction.
Sam was dying...a tear slipping down her cheek in laughter.
The expression on the Colonel's face...there was no value that could ever be attached to that expression.
Janet was shaking in silent laughter as Jack stared at the vehicle in his driveway.
It looked brand new, right off the showroom floor...except that he couldn't see any showroom that had any decency having an Easter Egg like that in the showroom.
He couldn't think and Amber's laughter wasn't helping.
He was not riding in that, much less driving it.
He didn't want it in his driveway.
Someone might actually see it.
"I know it's probably not what you expected, but Amber did say it was important, so Laci sent it over."
Jack just stared at her, his mouth moving, but no words coming out.
Janet's hand on his arm vaulted him out of the shock and he spoke quietly, almost whispering.
"It's blue...with pink clouds..."
Judy winced.
She suspected Laci hadn't told Amber what she'd done to the Voyager during the beginning of her fourth month.
It probably wouldn't help this poor man to know that everything else in their house had been painted pink, blue, and yellow...with the same cute design on it, too.
"...and white bunnies..."
Judy winced again at the shock in his voice.
"Laci had a bunny attack. She had it professionally done. You can see the quality of the detailing..."
"The bunnies...are dancing."
Judy began to fear for the man's sanity.
"Mr..."
"Just Jack. Tell me...does your sister secretly hate me?"
Janet got herself under control and stepped forward.
"Thank you for bringing it, Miss..."
"Judy. Judy Walt. I'm really sorry."
"Don't be. It's not your fault."
Janet slipped her hand into Jack's back pocket and pulled out his wallet.
He barely noticed.
She spoke quietly with Judy all the way to the taxi where she pre-paid the fare and got them on their way.
She waved them off, the keys in her hand.
She bit her lip at the disbelief in Jack's eyes.
He just silently motioned toward the pastel vehicle in his drive.
Sam was rolling on the carpet.
She held her sides as the Colonel tried to mentally deal with the cute bunny car.
Finally he just turned away from it, refusing to admit its existence in his reality.
He wasn't talking to Amber anymore either.
Her mental howls of laughter at that statement fueled his need for revenge.
Something swift and preferably deadly...something that involved her being inside that...thing while it was noisily and slowly smashed into a small cube...
Janet took quick visual inventory of the suitcases. knowing she'd need to leave room for hers when Amber got back.
Ignoring Sam's laughter and trying desperately not to join her, she followed Jack into the house, stopping him with an arm around his waist.
"You'll need this."
She slid his wallet back into his pocket, kissing his neck before passing him quickly to get Teal'c to help her.
She walked into Jack's bedroom, stepping over the remains of the bedroom door, and got out the handcuffs the infirmary nurses had given the Colonel for Christmas as a gag gift.
They were real and even though they had pink fluffy feathers attached to them, they were ideal for holding Airman Trivies.
She pocketed the key and headed for the spare bedroom.
Sam just laughed harder remembering the Colonel's face when he'd gotten the handcuffs in front of General Hammond and the way Col. Makepeace had verbally abused him the rest of the day.
Janet snickered, unable to stop.
*I can't wait to see Teal'c's face, either.*
Sam just gasped, trying to control herself.
Opening the door, Janet stepped up to Teal'c.
Handing him the handcuffs, enjoying his raised eyebrow at the fluffy cuffs, she motioned to the airman.
"I need you to help me get the suitcases loaded, so if you'll cuff him to something in here, I'd appreciate it."
"Why is O'Neill not helping you?"
"He's...indisposed. You'll probably understand when you see the car."
Teal'c silently cuffed the airman to the metal bar in the closet.
The man sighed loudly.
"This is highly illegal...not that anyone's listening."
Ignoring him completely, Teal'c made sure he was properly secured and followed JanetFraiser out the door.
They stopped by the living room where Teal'c noted O'Neill sitting on the floor beside CassandraFraiser watching television.
Teal'c barely glanced at the cartoon playing, unable to understand why O'Neill would allow JanetFraiser to load their luggage.
He thought carefully, knowing that the roles of males and females on this planet were different from his and he did not want to offend JanetFraiser by implying she was out of line.
He looked O'Neill over as unobtrusively as he could, trying to see if he was hurt in some way, but other than the occasional twinge in his shoulder, he could see nothing wrong.
That did not mean there was nothing wrong, however, so Teal'c turned and followed JanetFraiser through the front door, picking up the two suitcases as he passed them.
He did not recognize the other cases there and so did not touch them.
Janet paused, obviously waiting for him to join her.
As soon as he saw the vehicle in the driveway, he stopped.
He examined the vehicle, walking around it.
It seemed like any other Tau'ri vehicle except for the coloring, but he had seen many strange vehicles on the interstates and highways since arriving and so he checked out the car purely out of curiosity rather than disgust.
It would not be a vehicle O'Neill would enjoy...the coloring and decoration was not proper for a warrior.
Teal'c looked up at JanetFraiser, realizing O'Neill must not have known this about the vehicle and was refusing to help because of it.
Sometimes, O'Neill proved how much younger than Teal'c he was.
Teal'c mentally sighed against the younger man's immaturity and set about helping JanetFraiser by putting the suitcases on the luggage racks.
Janet watched Teal'c hoist the guys' and Cassie's suitcases up, showing no emotion whatsoever about the car.
Sam sighed, having hoped for more of a reaction, too, but at least Teal'c had looked the vehicle over.
That showed he had found something unique about it.
Of course, he probably just accepted it as another piece of Tau'ri culture.
Janet opened the back end, placing the cooler so whoever was in the back benchseat could just turn to open it.
She placed the three kits on either side of it so they were holding each other in place without actually being wedged in.
She shut the trunk and looked around, making sure the only things left were everyone's carry-ons.
"JanetFraiser..."
*When did he change it from DoctorFraiser?*
*I don't know. Probably when Jack and I got together. Maybe he doesn't just see me as a doctor tagging along anymore.*
*Janet, I doubt he ever saw you like that.*
*I felt that way sometimes.*
Sam knew that and decided not to talk about it since the situation had finally changed.
"How are we to attach the luggage so it does not fall off the top as we move?"
"Bungee cords, Teal'c."
"I am aware of the method. I refer to the lack of cords."
"Ah...Jack has some. Be right back."
Teal'c placed his feet and straightened his back, his stance that of someone waiting for awhile.
Janet smirked as she headed back into the house to where Jack was still behaving like a child.
"Jack, we need cords."
