Jack glanced around the Gate room.
"Did we get the day wrong?"
Carter avoided his eyes, knowing already where this was going.
Her hands were re-checking her pack, hoping she was right about Lt. Harris being the one who'd rigged the microphone.
"No sir, they're 5 minutes late."
"Oh, well, as long as we're not early or anything. I mean, I'd hate to actually leave for a mission on time. It would totally destroy our reputation."
Carter sent him an annoyed glance, toning it down so that no suspicion would be cast on her later.
"I'm sure there's a good reason for them being late, sir."
Jack just raised an eyebrow, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I'm sure."
Carter just suppressed a sigh and turned a concerned expression toward Teal'c.
"Are you ok? You're more quiet than usual."
Teal'c carefully schooled his expression, but was unable to remove the unease from his eyes.
"I am unsure about the procedures outlined by Dr. Corvores. She cannot guarantee the desired results."
Jack quickly ran his eyes over Teal'c, noting the tension revealed by the warrior's stance.
"What does Doc Fraiser have to say about it?"
Teal'c looked him in the eye, almost challenging.
"She is uncertain whether the risks outweigh the possible benefits."
Jack scowled.
"Well, I know it's your decision, and I haven't met the new doc yet, thank goodness, but I'd wait for Fraiser's okay if I were you."
Jack looked Teal'c in the eye, hoping he'd said her name with just the right amount of respect and disdain necessary.
Teal'c relaxed a bit.
"That was my decision, also."
Jack's face lit up in a grin and just as fast collapsed into a full-fledged glower as SG-13 and Daniel entered the Gate room.
"Dr. Jackson..."
"Jack, don't."
Daniel knew his voice was abrupt, but he didn't bother trying to hide just how annoyed he was.
"We're late because someone decided to duct tape our packs to the ceiling. It took us forever to get all the tape off."
Jack raised both eyebrows at Carter who'd been acting awfully fidgety.
Wonder if she'd thought Daniel was behind the whole locker room thing, or of she'd just decided to get all the men on base in order to catch the right one.
Jack leaned over and whispered in her ear.
"Nice one...just pick a better time for it. Delaying a mission is not an acceptable side effect to a prank."
Carter had the grace to look guilty.
"Yes, sir."
Daniel bestowed a thoroughly persecuted grimace on both of them.
SG-13: USAF Capt. Dr. Syla Mason, M. D. , USAF First Lt. Greg Harris, USAF Capt. Nora Frome, and USAF Maj. Terry Gorowitz walked up to SG-1, their pique obvious.
"Sorry, sir."
Gorowitz offered apologies for the team.
"I expect Dr. Jackson explained what happened."
"Yes, Major, he did."
Gorowitz didn't detect any softening in the Colonel's glare.
Sighing, softly, he took up position behind Carter.
Grinning to himself, Jack motioned to start dialing the planet.
"Chevron 5 encoded...uh oh."
Jack looked up sharply at that.
"Problem?"
"Yes sir. The computer was dialing the wrong planet. We're shutting down. It'll be 5 minutes before we can redial correctly."
Jack graced SG-13 with an exasperated twinkle. He just couldn't resist.
"Perhaps SG-13 should wait outside the gateroom while the computer dials. Just in case, of course."
Nora's mouth tightened as anger flashed in her eyes.
She ducked her head so the Colonel couldn't see what she really wanted to say to him.
Gorowitz simply turned to the Colonel, looking him in the eye.
"Yes sir."
He then motioned his team to step outside the gateroom.
Jack's jaw dropped slightly and he couldn't miss the now open glares his team directed at him.
"Belay that order."
SG-13 stopped immediately and turned expectantly toward the Colonel.
"Just...get in line."
As SG-13 obediently moved into single file in front of the ramp, the seriousness of their movements were sabotaged by the smirks Carter and Daniel were trying to suppress.
It wasn't every officer who could look the SGC's second in command in the eye and calmly accept his mood swings.
Jack's eyes promised vicious retaliation, prompting them to quiet down...mostly.
Just then, Lt. Simmons announced the computer was ready and the Gate began dialing again.
As the wave crashed towards them before coalescing into a rippling event horizon, Jack called up.
"You're sure it dialed correctly this time?"
"Yes sir, we're sure."
"Good. Let's go."
